MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
We hope all our family and friends have had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year brings all you have hoped and worked for. We have had a terrific Christmas. Below are some snaps from the day which began with Santa Sack discovering at 3:45 am!!! (The Santa Sacks were decorated by each of them as part of the prelude to Christmas). We went to 8:00 am Mass at the Cathedral (which was lovely, but very different to the Christmas liturgies at St Nicholas). All those intelligent, tasteful,..... St George supporters out there will be pleased to know that "The Saints Go Marching In" was sung as a recessional hymn at Mass. The boys then tested out their new remote-control cars downstairs before we began the gift opening ceremony with carols. The boys went for a quick dip before we indulged in the usual Christmas fare, although in a modified form this year due to the exorbitant cost of turkeys, hams, etc (around each).

Noel!
This is a beautiful hand-made wall hanging I bought from the MANZA International Bazaar in KL. It helped to add a bit more of a Christmas feel to the place. |
Christmas in Malaysia.
We have had quite a few questions about Christmas here so I will give a brief run-down.
Although Malaysia is regarded as a Muslim country it is an ethnically diverse and tolerant country. The major religious festivals for Islam, Hinduism and Christianity are all celebrated and public holidays reflect the religious diversity. Christmas has become more and more prominent in recent years and many Muslims celebrate a secular version which includes Christmas eve parties and gift-giving at midnight. This year, however, it follows only a week after Hari Raya Aidilfitri (the major celebration, at the end of Ramadan). Expat groups tend to share Christmas at large hotels, etc and open-houses are fairly common.
Here we are Christmas shopping in Jalan Masjid India, Little India. (Matt is on the left and Jack's leg can be seen ....sort of. Nick was there, but too embarrassed to get in the pic).
